Cambodian Refugees
HOME
In April and May, 1998 heavy fighting between Cambodian government forces and the Khmer Rouge took place at one of the last KR strongholds located at Anlong Veng, near the Thai-Cambodian border. As the fighting drew closer, the civilian population, numbering over15,000, fled for the safety of the Thai border.

The trek took over two weeks. By the time the refugees reached the border, the majority of the women, children and elderly, were suffering from dehydration and malaria.
